CERRO MARMOLEJO, CENTRAL ANDES, CHILE
In February, 2004, Jill, Dan, and I, guided by Jean, attempted to summit 20,035' Cerro Marmolejo in the Central Andes. While we were turned back at 19,000' by snow, cold, and shortness of daylight, we made a good effort.

The President of Chile, Salvador Allende, was killed in this building when, in a coup in 1973, Gen. Augusto Pinochet had the Air Force bomb the Presidential Palace in downtown Santiago.
